I have a student who swears she saw a monologue at the California State Festival two years ago that involved a woman waiting for a phone call, ending with her yelling at the phone.  That's all she remembers, but she really wants to do the monologue......

Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Sounds like "A Telephone Call" by Dorothy Parker.  It's not from a play but I have seen people use it as a monologue.

Could it be from Dead Man's Cell Phone by Sarah Ruhl? She's actually yelling at the guy but he's, as suggested by the title, dead.

I'm thinking it's from Jane Wagner's The Search for signs of Intelligent life in the universe (Lily Tomlin), but I could be wrong. Many of my female students have done it over the past few years (I'll ask them). It is overdone at college auditions, but I haven't see it at my entrance auditions for a few years.
