    Hi everyone!

I was wondering if any of you have done Zombie Prom recently? I would love to hear your thoughts- both good and bad- about this show...I personally love the title but am concerned patrons may be disappointed when they realize we are dealing with a completely different zombie than lets say the Walking Dead and that there is only ONE zombie in the entire show. Also am not completely crazy about the book and some of the songs, however I want to do something fun and fresh like this show next year.
I also like that it is mainly an ensemble show as I have many very good students next year, but not many great students that could carry a major lead.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

What about Dracula: The Musical? Samuel French has it.

I helped out on a production of Zombie Prom a few years ago.
The show was not too bad, but you're going to find many are going to like or hate it, little in between.

You could make it where some other people were turned into zombies by the accident, there were three or four zombies I believe in the production I helped with.

MTI and TRW both have a lot of newer, contemporary plays with the ensemble feel and Rodgers and Hammerstein has some more classic shows.

Spamalot, Big fish if you have two strong guys, Striking 12,  Band Geeks, Footloose, Godspell,
Music Man are all some shows that require a few great performers and the rest more in a good skill set but not stars.

Ultimately, you know your kids and your community.

I really had a lot of fun doing zombie prom about four years ago. It is an easily expandable chorus and has lots of fun big group numbers. The only downside about that is it is a TON of dance and you need plenty of dance rehearsals. The book isn't fabulous, but let's be honest, most musical books aren't. It's fun, it's colorful, it's generally upbeat, it's fashionable and isn't totally devoid of worthwhile material when you tie it in to civil rights ideas. Great show in my opinion. I had a group that really wanted to do Grease, but since I refuse to do that show, this was a nice alternative. I did take out a verse from the tango song between Miss Strict and Eddie because it was pretty risqué.

I also had a great time directing Zombie Prom.  I don't know that anyone who auditioned or attended was expecting hordes of the Walking Dead.  It's musical comedy for goodness' sake. I thought the show had good songs and a lot of humor - which the kids got right from the start. I agree that the challenge was in the sheer number of songs that were dance numbers - virtually all of them are.  We jokingly referred to it as Zomble Opera, as there were so few non-singing scenes, and most of the story is told through song.  Our kids and audiences loved it.  If you enjoy introducing your students and audiences to shows that aren't as well known as Grease, I recommend Zombie Prom.

I did ZP a few years ago.  I loved it, the audience either loved or hated it.  There are some great dances, my Eddie was terrific and stole the show, the kids had a blast doing it.  I think it's a fun show, somebody said you can add zombies - I don't know how without diluting the main character's experience, but maybe that is lack of vision on my part.  I loved the show, it was wacky and fun and I would recommend it - though again, the audience was split on it.
