  • 1.  Seeking Professional Development in Europe

    Posted 04-24-2014 13:37
I am looking for a professional development opportunity (short course, workshop, conference) in Europe.  My preference is England, with a focus on Shakespeare, but I am open to many other places and courses of study. Does anyone know of anything that fits this bill?  I am looking to go at some point during next school year, 2014-2015.

    Heres some:

You might contact your state chapter of the English Speaking Union. In Kentucky they award scholarships in a three week program at Shakespeare's Globe in London.

Also, Shakespeare Birthplace Trust might have opportunities.

If you were going during the summer you should look into the 4 week Globe theatre program for H S teachers sponsored by the English-speaking Union (in your region) ------------------------------------------- Phillip Rayher Director, Theatre Dept. I agree with the ESU option. Our chapter gives scholarships as well.

The English-Speaking Union is terrific and is always seeking new members. If you can connect with them, they can assist you with everything.

Check out Royal Shakespeare Company.  They have a partnership with University of Warwick and offer classes in Shakespeare (from both a theatre and English/LA point of view) in Stratford-Upon-Avon in July.  I've never done them, so I can't vouch for them, but I've always wanted to.  You can even use these classes (in conjunction with online classes toward a Master's Degree in Teaching Shakespeare)
