Anyone have a show idea for a few tenors, couple of basses, adequate altos and sopranos with very pretty but soft voices?  All of our belters are graduating.  Any ideas?

As "belting" seems to be a fairly contemporary trend, I would try pulling from more classic material! This could be a fun opportunity to introduce your students to The Golden Age in theatre history. These may not be the exciting "new" shows they crave like Shrek or Rent, but they are important to be exposed to, nonetheless.

It sounds like you are in the unusual position of having more men than women. If that is the case, you could look at Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Shenandoah, or maybe Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. If you have girls who just need a little more confidence as they come out of the shadow of the belters you could look at The Wizard of Oz or Cinderella (or any Rodgers and Hammerstein). ------------------------------------------- Kit Rodgers New Hampshire Chapter Co-Director Dover NH -------------------------------------------

    Hello!

Question: are you in a situation where you have more females than males? Or are your strongest singers just males?

If you want a smallish cast, look into The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. You only need 1 strong belter voice for that, all the other girls can easily use character voices.

Another good choice is Suessical. Jojo & the Cat can be males. You only really need 3 strong female voices and Gertrude is more of a pretty voice than a belter.

You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown is always a crowd favorite.

Drowsy Chaperone is a wonderful musical. Big cast, mostly males. 3 female voices, 2 can be pretty opposed to belter.

There's also Guys & Dolls. Heavy male show. 2 female voices. Very pretty.

Oh! Music Man is pretty female voices as well!

    Hopefully this was helpful!!
