That's not a lot to go on. Besides looking at the AMDA site for specific information here are a few things I tell my kids:
-make sure you like the piece. He will perform at a higher standard if he has an emotional stake in the piece and, since he gets to choose the work, it would be silly not to work with something he enjoys.
-have it come from a play not a monologue book. The amount of information that is given about characters in a play cannot be compared with anything found in a stand alone piece
Recommendations:
Dramatic:
I Am My Own Wife by Doug Wright
Nijinsky's Last Dance by Norman Allen
Dracula by William McNulty
Sherlock Homes and the West End Horror by Miriam Miglrom-Dodge and Anthony Dodge
Phaedre by Jean Raccine
Six Characters in Search of an Author by Pirandello
I can't think of any comedic off the top. :^/

Subject: Monologues for AMDA audition
I have a student with an audition for AMDA in New York City this December. I am seeking input from you as to successful, but not overdone, monologues from which he can choose. The only information he has shared is that it should be 2 minutes long.
I'm looking to share with him this information on Wednesday.
