My "production" class is part of my FTE, the same as any other class I teach, and is .2 of my pay even though the class is after school hours and is an elective. However, because it does occur after school, I receive an extra stipend of about 800 dollars per year via union contract. The compensation is better this way for me because when I did it as an extra, I got paid a stipend of 2500 to do the same thing, but it was on top of teaching all day. This way I get a morning period off every day and .2 of my full time salary. I spent many, many years lobbying for this.

My situation is similar to Shira's. The way my contract is written, I get a stipend for 3 shows per year - one musical and 2 straight plays. The student directed one acts, any competition pieces my students do, and the 2 student directed shows in our production class are considered part of the curriculum and there is no extra pay for that time.

Yes we receive supplemental pay. The school treats it as extra curricular, like a coach for a sport team. Just as the PE teacher coaches baseball and gets extra pay, we get a lump sum per semester to produce, direct and design.

I have a question related to the production class thread-but it's slightly different. If you run a production based course where the work during the regular class time is focused on a final performance-do you also receive a supplemental payment/stipend/extra duty pay of some sort? (similar to the supplemental a coach may receive)
If so, how do you justify this to your administration or how does your administration justify this?
