Child Friendly Full Length Play

  • 1.  Child Friendly Full Length Play

    Trying to decide on shows for next season.  We need something that will bring in the community- children of all ages and a play as well.  What have you had success with?  Suggestions? We need a money maker but also something that our high schoolers will have fun with.  Thanks in advance.

    Are you looking for a musical or a straight? There is a cute musical called The Berenstain Bears on Stage by Stan and Jan Berenstain and Elliot Lawrence and Jamie Broza

    We are looking for a straight play and I should mention we have already done Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland.

    We had fun with Timothy Mason's Beauty and the Beast last year. It's not the biggest cast (although you can have quite a few servants) but had name recognition

    I second Charlotte's Web! It was our fall production this year and it was a hit with the cast and the community. If you search online, you can also find lesson plans that go with the show. I included these in a mailing to my elementary schools so they had lessons provided to prepare the children for the show. It was wonderful!

    Story Theatre. . .and there's a delightful version of Cinderella with a dragon and a forgetful Fairy GodMother, but I can't remember who wrote it.

    Hey there,

    I have had great fun with the play "Wiley and the Hairy Man" by Suzan Zeder.  It is an incredibly physical piece with a flexible ensemble.  The story it child friendly, funny, and the high school students will enjoy the physical theatre aspects and ensemble driven nature of the show.  There is also lots of room for fun costuming and special effects.

    Phantom Tollbooth is a great play...the musical version is great, too. It's not overdone and all ages seem to enjoy all the literary references.
