  • 1.  Musicals with several male major roles

Our school, although small, has always had more male talent than female talent in terms of men who can sing AND act.  I want to do Oliver next year, but my music director does not like that show.  I may do it anyway, but do any of you have suggestions for other fun musicals we could do?  We like doing big cast musicals since this is a huge tradition at our school.  We can even involve the lower grades if needed.

We had great success with Aida, School Addition, this year. There are lots of male roles, yet great features for females as well. What high school guy wouldn't enjoy playing a member of an Egyptian Army or an Evil Minister? Mine loved the show.

There are also great roles for boys in Anything Goes.

We've done both Aida and Spamalot and had success with both.  A lot of the Golden Age R&H musicals have big ensembles. Oklahoma and South Pacific come immediately to mind.

Check out The Scarlett Pimpernel - our audiences loved it and the students had a blast doing it.
