    Theatre Acting Teacher & Director

    Minimum requirements:

    College degree with eligibility for a Texas secondary teaching certificate

     Experienced at teaching acting, preferably with high school age students

     Experience with various acting methodologies – Meisner, Viewpoints, Laban, Stanislavski, Spolin, etc.

     Extensive directing experience/resume

     Have the human relations skills to maintain open lines of communication, be available for and skilled in conflict resolution, and exemplify and encourage healthy ensemble relationships

     Effective organizational skills

    Preferred experience and skills:

    Professional acting experience in theatre, film, or television

     Professional directing experience

     Teaching experience with gifted or pre-professional level high school students

     BFA / MFA in Acting

    Primary teaching requirements:

    To establish and implement full courses of college preparatory acting curriculum for the Theatre Department

     To teach advanced acting styles and audition techniques to theatre students who choose to specialize in acting and musical theatre and intend to pursue performance as a profession

     To teach and to demonstrate high standards of theatre business and professionalism and to expect professionalism from students at all times

     To direct two - three department productions per school year

     To evaluate students regularly on the basis of criteria clearly communicated and report the results of these evaluations to the students, to other theatre teachers, as appropriate, and to the parents of students

     To assign and assess meaningful creative assignments to students

     To supervise students during after school rehearsals and performances

     To encourage students to audition and perform locally, statewide, and nationally

     To keep up to date with new scripts and new theatre technology including computer technology for submitting audition materials and college applications

     To teach other areas of theatre as may become necessary

    Departmental requirements:

    To work closely with the musical theatre and design faculty to develop and execute a comprehensive four-year sequential plan with all theatre curriculum

     To work cohesively with the theatre faculty in the timely execution of production calendars, design and stage management duties

     To organize/attend production meetings with the technical production team and the stage management as necessary

     To coordinate adjunct faculty by assisting and mentoring as needed with equipment, class prep, information about policies and deadlines, etc.

     To maintain the departmental theatre spaces and to keep the classroom and performance spaces organized, orderly and safe

     To effectively execute the rehearsal process for assigned productions and events

     To regularly communicate with theatre parent support group on department expectations, productions and events

    Additional school requirements:

    To collaborate with other HSPVA art departments on school-wide productions and/or events

     To be willing and able to adjust work schedule for extended hours including Saturday duties for special functions as required by the school/department

     To pursue professional development to maintain knowledge of materials, techniques and technology

     To perform other assignments at the request of High School Principal and Theatre Department Chair.

     To be flexible and willing to adapt quickly

     To be prepared to meet the needs of a physically demanding assignment

     To be resilient, able to manage stress, have a positive attitude and promote compromise

     To be open to learning and to generating new ideas

     To be a creative problem solver

     To embrace the culture of HSPVA.
