Angela,
My name is Aaron Miller, I'm the theatre & Media arts director at Tullahoma High School in Tennessee. For the last 2 years I've been gradually building our media arts class and I'd be happy to share my trials, tribulations, and successes.
For starters here is a list of books I used to educate myself and (eventually) my students:
How to Shoot Video that Doesn't Suck - by Steve Stockman
The Digital Filmmaking Handbook - Schenk & Long
Greenscreen Made Easy -- Jeremy Hanke, MIchelle Yamazaki
Cinematography: Theory & Practice -- Blain Brown
Setting Up Your Shots - Jeremy Vineyard
The Filmmaker''s Eye --Gustavo Mercado
Acting for the Camera -- Tony Barr
We were fortunate enough that a local TV station loaned us a Tricaster, and that initially the class was funded by grant money so we were able to purchase a few cameras (
http://amzn.to/24SW19U), tripods, and a lighting kit (
http://amzn.to/1RBOwKS). However, you don't need all the bells and whistles to get started teaching cinematography and camera acting. They can use their own cameras, or the cams on their phones/iPads/other devices.
I probably have a bunch of stuff I could share with you if you want to email me directly:
theatreartsteach@gmail.com I can share them via Google Drive and answer any other, specific, questions you have.
Lastly, I am good friends with a wonderful performer, teacher, and human whom I strongly recommend bringing in to work with your kids. Her name is Elaine Bromka and you can find out all about her at
teaforthree.com
Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.
Aaron
