I have two good monologuers who are looking to take on poetry interpretation in competition.  I am looking for good age appropriate poems for 6th-8th graders, or a good resource to help find poems.  Any ideas??

Ogden Nash, Shel Silverstein and Judith Viorst's Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day come to mind.

I started doing Poetry Theatre years ago and stumbled upon a national recitation contest.  They have a great website with hundreds of classic and contemporary poems of varying themes, lengths, and styles.

The contest draws upon many of the Theatre standards we use and even has complete lesson plans.  I augment my unit with some of their resources and do the contest in the winter.  My English Dept. loves collaborating on the contest and I use those teachers as the judges for our school-wide event.

    Here's the website:  PoetryOutLoud.org
