Has anyone done Mystery of Edwin Drood with their high school? We're considering it for next year but would love to hear how it went for your school.

    Hi, Christina,
We staged Drood about four years ago.  The cast was full of splendid voices; the costumes were formidable (fortunately, with two experienced student seamstresses, we did a lot of building and therefore saved some money); the actors really bought into it.  The most difficult part was explaining English music hall tradition, but the students eventually "got it."  A BIG show, especially for our small school (fortunately, we had several very good dancers and a fabulous young man for the alcoholic Cockney gentleman).
The expense of buying period accessories was well worth it, as you will likely find you'll use the items again and again (lace gloves, men's trousers, cut-price morning coats/frock coats are available from a variety of eBay formal wear vendors).
The only "con" -- it is a LOOOONG show!
    Good luck!

I am currently directing it! This is the second time for me. It works well, but the music is VERY challenging. Once kids realized it is somewhat of a farce, they had a ball. Again, need some really advanced musicians to sing some of the harmonies...
