  • 1.  Great Middle Schools

    Our admissions staff just asked me for a list of excellent middle schools that we can send our admissions folks to vis-à-vis talking up our theater program.  Any thoughts as to schools with standout middle school theater programs that we can link up with?  Thanks for any ideas.

    Bloomfied hills middle school has a strone program. The school where I teach, White Pine Middle School has a wonderful program 6-8 and it is an IB school and has been nationally recognized by Schools To Watch. Both schools are in Michigan.

    All of the above were/are the full versions (no juniors, etc.)

    All of the above used middle school student choreographers, except for Peter Pan.

    Here in Columbus, MS, I feel we have a great program. It's been built from the ground-up in a poverty-stricken area with $0 budget. We haven't won any awards, but our program has definitely changed some kids' lives.

    I teach at Valdosta Middle School in Valdosta, Ga.  I started the drama program here 13 years ago and it has grown from one class period of 20 students to 5 class periods with students on waiting lists to get into the class.  I love sharing about the program here in Valdosta and the impact its made on my students.  Please feel free to email me at any time.  :)
