Hi all:  Killing two birds with one post.

    1.  Does anyone happen to have an already composed pre-show announcement for Seussical, in the style of Dr. Seuss' writings?  (Rhyming and what not?)

    2.  Does anyone else feel like Summer is busier than the school year?  I'm looking for Shrek props, costumes, and set, in the Denver area.  I will transport, and we can either borrow or rent, or workout trade, for the millions of shows for which I seem to be accumulating resources.

Thank you.  Bring on da' summah.

We recently did Shrek and have a HUGE Dragon head with moveable mouth that fits over the actor.  The mouth is easy to move and we made a "skirt" to cover the bottom of the actor that manipulates the dragon head.  If you can come get it, we'd love to rent/sell it.

    Mark,

I don't have anything for Seussical, but we just did Shrek and rented costumes and the Dragon from Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre up in Grand Lake, CO. I can give you contact info if you want and send you pics of our show so you can see what they look like. We did the set from ScenoGraphics and their design was awesome, very challenging to build. Sadly, we tore it down already.

I am directing Shrek in our community theater this summer and will be happy to send you pics of our costumes in a few weeks so you can see if you are interested in any of them.

Scottsbluff, Nebraska did Shrek within the past two years. The director is Brad Ronne (pronounced with a long o and long e). They are only a couple hundred miles north of you. You can email him through their website sbps.net or the music department website ronne.com.

I finally broke down and wrote a Seussical pre-show announcement for my wife's after school theater program at The Pegasus School.  Here goes (written for 4 announcers selected from the cast):

    Announcer 1

Look at us! Look at us! Look at us NOW! It is fun to have fun, but you have to know how.

Our play will start happening, don’t worry, don’t stew.   Just come along with us and you’ll be happening too.

    Announcer 2

Before the lights go down for the start of our show.

Make sure that every cell phone is off in your row.

    Announcer 3

The use of a flash is strictly prohibited.

It might make us fall, or act somewhat inhibited

    Announcer 4

Our videographer will be professionally recording our best.

Your phone shots are just making others enjoy the show less.

    Announcer 1

In case you have to quickly leave our fine environment.

Exits to the right or left will relieve your confinement.

    Announcer 2

The restrooms are located by the hallway you just entered.

The use of Megelligot's pool is not recommended.

    Announcer 3

There are twists and some turns, a judge and a marshall

But you’ll have to watch us now and not be too partial.

    Announcer 4

Our show starts with JoJo, a smart child in Whoville.

Meeting The Cat in Hat who bears him no ill will.

    Announcer 1

Gertrude McFuzz is Horton the elephant’s supporter.

Long tail feathers, is what she tries for him to notice her.

    Announcer 2

Mayzie Labird tells us she is amazing with great glee.

But leaves Horton the elephant with her egg in a tree.

    Announcer 3

The Wickersham Monkeys and the Kangaroos too,

Send Horton the elephant off to the zoo.

    Announcer 4

We are ready to start, the actors are loose

From our after school theater program here at PegaSeuss

This is the house announcement we wrote for our show.  Use if you like.

Ladies and gentlemen and little ones too,

Please allow us to welcome each one of you.

But before you sit back and get cozy in your chair,

There are a few things of which we need to take care.

If you need to get up during the show

Let one of our ushers show you were to go.

Otherwise do keep the aisles nice and clear.

You never know what may be crawling quite near.

When the first act is over and you head out for a feast,

Enjoy the cookies, candy, drinks and roast beast.

But keep all those goodies in the lobby dear guests,

Because we want to keep our theatre looking its best.

All pagers and cell phones should be stored away too.

So that no Who can email, call, or text you.

Thank you for coming to hear our fun story.

We hope you enjoy Seuss in all his Seuss glory!
