    Hello, everyone!

My Theatre III class is doing mock IE's for a grade in 10 days. My partner and I were planning on doing the song "This Never Happened Before" from Bonnie and Clyde the Musical. We picked this song in early December when we first heard about this project. We originally chose it because we wanted to stretch ourselves acting wise, as we've never performed a song that really put us out of our comfort zones. We have been practicing this for about 2 months. Just this afternoon, circumstances took a turn for the worst and now we cannot do the song, unfortunately. So now I need a new duet for a male and a female that is appropriate for 2 high school students. I would really love it to be a less known piece so there are no expectations or judgments before we perform. It can be either comedic or dramatic, it doesn't matter because we're pretty desperate at this point. Also we would love it if the songs had free sheet music or an instrumental/karaoke version on YouTube or something. Thank you so so much. All suggestions and comments are greatly appreciated!

(P.S. We really like Time Stops from Big Fish the Musical because I already own the vocal score for it. We also looked at First Impressions from First Date the Musical.)

I really like Sirens from Jane Eyre: The Musical. You might also try First Date, Last Night from Dogfight or something from Falling For Eve.

First Date/Last Night is my favorite song from Dogfight. I would love the chance to sing that song. Thank you for your suggestions!

    You might look at:

"The Colors of My Life" from BARNUM; he sings more than she does

"In Whatever Time We Have" from CHILDREN OF EDEN

    Hi Michaela!

If you're leaning more towards a comedy, Stud and Babe from I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change is a great one. More serious duets, however, I'd look at anything from Ordinary Days.

    Hi Michaela,

One of my favorite duets of all time, and one that I worked on with my scene partner for several months during my senior year of college, is "Move On" from Sunday in the Park with George. It's pretty challenging from both a musical and acting standpoint, but I became a better actor each and every time I worked on it. If you're not familiar with the show, watch the video recording of the original Broadway production from the 80's, starring Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin.

     Best of luck! :)

Right now, there's so much chatter about the film version of "Into the Woods" that we might overlooks some of the beatifully crafted duets. "It Takes Two" is a charming statement of rekindled romance, with clever lyrics split pretty evenly between the baker and the baker's wife. For two women, there's a song for the witch and Rapunzel, that's optional but frequently done, called "Our Little World". ------------------------------ Michael Bergman Teacher/Director Alexandria VA ------------------------------

I like some of the oldie but goodies. One of my duets, several years ago, took a Best in Show in competition with "When the Children Are Asleep" from Carousel. I frequently judge competitions and there is a tendency to use things over and over. It's nice to use things that aren't heard that frequently anymore.
