I work with Pre-Service Theatre education candidates, observing their videos of six completed lessons which include the NCAS, emerging teaching practices, commendations and recommendations.
I found myself looking at some NEVERS in our theatre profession. I usually don't agree with Nevers, Always, Everyones, because there is often something that happens which defies the absolutes. So what are some "Nevers" in our teaching practices to perhaps consider for teachers?
Never turn your back to the class; when talking with a student, place the student between you and the class.
Never (if at all possible) miss a deadline for registering your students for festival participation.
Never let yourself get burnt out.
Never deny yourself self-care time.
Never forget your family; students graduate; hopefully family is forever.
What do you think? If you would like, add to the "Nevers."
