HI Miguel,
I did CATS many moons ago and we used smoke geysers built into the set for the effect. It worked nicely coupled with a small strobe effect in the same area. You can even gel the strobe to give a red/orange flame color. Aside from that we didn't get too wrapped up in all of the pyrotechnics as our student was a good dancer and so we pushed that with the geysers/strobe flash as a compliment.
Break a leg!

Subject: CATS - Mr. Mistoffelees
I was wondering if anyone had ever directed CATS, and how they accomplished the "explosions effects." The character Mr. Mistoffelees does this a few times in the show. I have done a lot of research and have not found anything that would be safe or have a similar effects (smoke rising). Here is a link to the smoke bombs Mistoffelees creates in the dance number. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
