  • 1.  Application/teacher recommendation process for a new class

    Does anyone use an application or some sort of selection process to select students that get put into a class?  If so, would you be willing to share?

    Next year I will be teaching a 7th & 8th grade Drama class, the first time we've offered anything other than 9-12 theatre classes.  There are around 100 that have expressed interest, and only 60 spots available (30 each semester).  I've been asked to find a way to help select which students to put into the classes, some sort of application , etc., to try to make sure that those students that are really interested make it in.   (Note- I do not know any of these students since I'm 9-12).  If anyone has a kind of teacher recommendation form or etc. that you'd be willing to share, I'd be extremely grateful!!

    If you can, do an audition workshop (or two), then audition kids (Live or digital) to get into the class .
    That ought to separate out the workers from the just-wanna-be-with-my-friends kids.
    I've done this with 8th graders moving into my HS program, and it's yielded WONDERFUL results.
