This is one part of a series of blogs about maximizing your experience with our online Community, not only to help newbies get their bearings but to also help experienced users learn more and take the next steps or help others. Today, we're going to review
participation notifications.
First of all, what are participation notifications?
Participation notifications help you stay aware of Community content that specifically applies to you. They are email notifications sent in real-time that are separate from your community subscription (Daily Digest).
There are two ways to trigger participation notifications:
Automatic:
-If you start a new discussion thread (ask a new question), you will immediately receive an email notification when someone replies, letting you know that you received a reply. This saves you from having to revisit the thread in order to check on the status.
-If you post a response to someone else's thread/question, you immediately receive an email when anyone else replies to that same thread. This keeps you involved in the conversation and lets you know if anyone has a follow-up question for you.
Manual:
If you don't want to post a response to an existing discussion, but are interested in the topic, you will see a "Follow" icon with a small star next to the title of the thread. You can click on this icon to subscribe to that individual topic and receive immediate notifications any time someone posts a response.
If you lose interest in the thread and no longer wish to follow it, just click on that same icon to unsubscribe from that specific topic.
How do I unsubscribe from ALL participation notifications?
Since these notifications are specific to your interests and activity, it is not recommended that you unsubscribe. However, if you're really not a fan, it's easy to do. Navigate to your profile and select the "My Account" tab, drop down to "Email Preferences" and select "No" on the Participation Emails option. Note that this will also unsubscribe you from @mentions and email notifications that someone has sent you a private message in the Community.
