Educational Theatre Association was saddened to learn of the recent passing of Frank Stewart, who taught workshops for high school students and educators for more than 30 years through the International Thespian Society and the Educational Theatre Association. For decades, he also supported the main stage adjudication process for the International Thespian Festival and served on numerous ITF committees.

In 1990, he was given the EdTA Founder’s Award for making significant contributions to the growth and development of theatre education, research, and practice. The award recognizes work that supports the principles and mission of the founders to promote and strengthen theatre education.

He also had been a high school teacher in the classroom and a theatre instructor for the Georgia Governors Honors Program.

Mr. Stewart was an entertainment attorney in Los Angeles, primarily representing artists in the motion picture, television, and live theatre industries. He attended law school at the University of Virginia, received a master’s in theatre from Northwestern University, did postgraduate work in international relations at the London School of Economics, and did his undergraduate work at the University of Georgia and Harvard College.

He was a board member of the Good Entertainment Foundation, which ensures that the entertainment that reaches our kids activates their minds, touches their hearts, and inspires their actions – all to make the world a better place.
