Nothing wrong with "old school" casting. Comedy is instinctive, however. As you see, there are many factors to consider when casting. I was blessed with 40 years of students who rose to the occasion. No matter who you cast someone may question. How fair is it to one who has a great voice to not get ...

I always cast who had the best singing voice. It's a musical! People will remember the singing more than any other element. ------------------------------ Thomas Cole MI ------------------------------

Peter Pan is a timeless story! Barrie always wanted a boy to play Peter. A high tenor could pull off the part. You'll need someone in the baritone range for Hook. If you have someone who is good at transposing, it's a tremendous help! We did the full 1954 Broadway musical at our middle school in 2007; ...

Hi,   One of my good friends is a Broadway dancer and has been in several shows; he is an NYU graduate.   Here is what he says:       He was a part of CAP21 while it was still a part of NYU. It is an entirely new program, now.      As for the waitlist, kids have a chance to be accepted off ...

The Addams Family A New Musical turned out to be one of the best productions of my 40 year career as a theatre director! It was very well received! I chose it for several reasons: my music director saw it on Broadway and liked it, I loved the 60s TV show, I saw a promo with original Broadway cast member ...

It's a nice musical based on the book by Burnett, who also wrote The Secret Garden. Many parts for girls and some strong roles for boys.Andrew Lippa, who did Addams Family, wrote the music. It is an excellent score. Sierra Boggess is featured on the cast album. "Let Heart Be Your Compass" is a great ...

Hi, I've directed this play twice and used both intermissions in the script each time. I wanted to give our student performers and our audience an authentic theatrical experience such as it used to be. Teddy's charge ends Act I; Mortimer's timely entrance ends Act II. Kesselring structured ...

Hi, I recently retired after 40 years of teaching/coaching/directing etc. in Catholic schools. Here is my experience: In 1994 a colleague and I officially launched our middle school program; it was all volunteer and all after school. We did a night of one acts. From there we did full scale Broadway ...

The portrayal of Tiger Lily and her Braves was never an issue with us (Holy Family Middle School: 2007). We were true to the 1954 Broadway musical show material. (I prepared myself for "teachable" moments just in case.) Remember, the musical is a child's fantasy with iconic songs. Peter is stuck on twelve; ...

Hi, We did this in 2007 with our middle school. We used the 1954 Broadway musical version (then Samuel French; now, MTI). ZFX was hired for the flying (about $6,000.00; similar price for 2016; believe it or not). They had just flown Cathy Rigby; very easy to work with, patient, nice. Sets: ...
