I highly recommend The 39 Steps! Absolutely love this show. I did it with four of my advanced actors and it was a hit with the actors and the audience alike. While this show can be expanded for multiple actors I would use caution in exactly how you split those roles up. Part of the comedy comes from ...

I second Musical Comedy Murders... a great show! Here are some other fun shows we had great success with: Death and Deceit on the Nile by Peter DiPietro Noir Suspicions by David Landau Murderous Crossing by David Landau The 39 Steps by Patrick Barlow (this one is meant to be performed by 4 actors ...

I would recommend if you can manage to do a musical, do it. In my experience, musicals always bring in a bigger audience base and oftentimes a bigger actor base. I've been directing high school theatre for over twenty years. We currently do two plays, a set of student directed one acts and a musical ...

SOLD! - Sorry, these items are no longer available. We did Cinderella (Broadway version) a year ago and made three horses for use in the show, Buttercup (the horse the Prince Topher rides) and two horses with mechanical legs for the carriage. Like many theatres, we no longer have the space to store ...

Look into the plays by David Landau & Nikki Stern. Most of their stuff is comedic murder mystery style and many of the shows have songs in them but not considered musicals. They also allow for audience interaction and/or participation. We did Murderous Crossing (dinner theatre style) several years ago ...

Everyone's memorization style is different. What works for one student may not work as well for another so sometimes it is difficult to sort through all the tips out there. Like you, I wish there were more specific lessons on memorization. There seems to be a lot of quick tips but younger performers ...

Hi Karlie, I am so sorry to hear about the bullying situation where you are. That's absolutely awful. I've been working with high school theatre for over 20 years. Bullying performing arts kids has never been a huge issue where I'm at but it did used to happen a bit in the early years. And maybe not ...

"But Wait...There's More!" is a board game that translates wonderfully for theatre students. It requires improv, quick thinking and collaboration. This is a commercial creating game. If you remember all those '90's infomercials where they they tell you about a product and then include something else ...

We had the same issue with script requirements for The Play That Goes Wrong. We are casting the minimum amount of actors, 8, and yet we had to purchase 14 scripts. Plus two director scripts and two stage manager scripts. We only have one director and one stage manager. I called to inquire if we could ...

Hello, I am in need a of a powerful dramatic scene (for 1 man & 1 woman) with emotional range for a couple of my really strong senior performers. We are looking for a competition piece that is preferably a little lesser known (but not required). Both of these students have a wide range and can easily ...

Take a look at Godspell. It only requires 2 males, the rest of the cast can be male or female. The show is incredibly versatile to cast size and featuring the strengths of both singers and actors. Our school has done this show three times in the last twenty years and it has been a hit every time. One ...

We just did 12 Angry Jurors this past May. I absolutely love this show and so did our students as well as the audience. I think our students grew the most in their acting abilities with this show more than many others because of the work necessary to nail these characters and keep them from falling flat ...

Hi Cathy, Such a great show! We did Antigone Now several years ago to much success. As for style, we kept it modern day and because we wanted to make it a bit more relevant to our audience we used downtown Denver as our representation of Thebes (our school is located in the south Denver metro area so ...
