I'll throw out that in my theatre classroom I have rolling desk chairs, and we love them. We circle up with them for reading or discussion, and then they push back easily for movement work. They also fold up a bit and nest if you need to get them out of the way. The only think I wish is that we'd gotten ...

Following. I love to find solid, smart comedies. My contribution is Kate Hamill's Sense and Sensibility. So much fun, but I think you need at least 3-4 guys. ------------------------------ Cassy Maxton-Whitacre Theatre, Film, and Communications Instructor Shenandoah Valley Governor's School Fishersville, ...

I feel sure this list exists here already, but here's what I have from my research. This hasn't been updated in a few years because I chose a program in 2021. I chose the MFA in Theatre Education at Mississippi University for Women, and I graduate in just a few weeks. I'm happy to answer any questions ...

I know this is an old post, but I just ran across it in the midst of my research. I am in the process of updating my studio acting curriculum, including the plays we use for script analysis and scene study. One play we use is She Kills Monsters (Young Adventurers Version), and I feel good about that ...

Are you a member of the Drama Teacher Academy? They have a whole folder full of emergency sub plans. You might want to look at the EdTA "Click to Teach" lessons as well, which are fairly self-guided. A drama choice board might also work well for your situation, and I feel like there are some sample ones ...

I'm re-awakening this old thread to see what other suggestions people have for non-musical plays that still have opportunities for the actors to sing or play. Next year should be my non-musical year, but I still have a lot of talented singers that I could feature. No Shakespeare, please. We have a professional ...

Has anyone used canvas or muslin flats in one of their set designs, and if so, are you willing to share pictures? I'm doing a research project on different approaches to set building, and I'm having trouble finding good references images of Broadway flats in use. Thanks in advance! ---------- ...

You could see if you would be allowed to cut Sing Down the Moon or Perseus Bayou (I think they're both from Dramatic Publishing). Thanks for your ideas, everyone. Do you have recommendations of some go-to items that you would always re-use? I'm working on some grant applications. I do already have actor blocks and access to flats. It sounds like PVC pipe, muslin -- what else would be good to have around? ------------------------------ ...

Hello, theatre hive mind! I'm looking for your favorite tips and hacks for creating an interesting set design with minimum construction. I don't have a technical director, and since we rent a theater space, we have a very narrow build window. Unfortunately, our lighting grid tends to wash out projections, ...

I directed this in 2019, and it was so much fun! I have to confess that I wasn't able to be as creative with the staging as I would have liked -- I felt rather hampered by our proscenium stage. We were able to be pretty creative with the chorus of gossips. We did end up getting to do one performance ...

I'm finishing my thesis at the Mississippi University for Women and expecting to graduate next semester with my MFA in Theatre Education. The program requires 60 hours, mostly online, and can be completed in 2.5-3 years. There are two summer residencies of about 10 days each, which are actually pretty ...
