I included three chapters on memorization in my book, "Acting at the Speed of Life," but the one piece that continues to surprise me is just how much of memorization is physical more than mental. Any one of us could probably recite the pledge of allegiance without ever engaging our brain, because the ...

Hi, Kimberly! I've been on tour doing just this kind of guest artist work (especially as it applies to Shakespeare and voice) with schools for the last 20 years or so. I go through Missouri a couple of times every year. (Next pass-thru around January 21-22.) I'd love an opportunity to support you and ...

I've recently put together "Breakneck Midsummer Night's Dream" which reduces the cast size to six. I am gearing up to open the latest in my "Breakneck" series, "Breakneck Midsummer Night's Dream" at the Minnesota Fringe Festival (August 4!). This version has been adapted to feature six actors, each (except Puck) playing 3-4 characters apiece. (You can always divide up the roles differently.) No reviews ...

That sounds like a fun adventure, Craig! (I went to UNL for my MFA way back in the day...) If you're ever curious enough to want a look at my version, I'd be happy to send you an e-copy! (that, of course, goes for anyone else who might read this message.) Tim ------------------------------ Tim ...

I know some of you are in Nebraska: Midland University is presenting my "Tartuffe" March 23-26. Info here: https://fremonttribune.com/news/local/midland-university-to-present-play-tartuffe/article_8fce2dac-7ada-57a6-a345-adf60c7ef930.html (The director calls it "Dr. Seuss on steroids.") Tim --- ...

As a Playscripts playwright, there seems to be a fundamental flaw in their assumptions. If I answer their question about how big a cast I RECOMMEND, I may answer with a high or low number (usually both), depending on how few actors that I think it can be done by, or how many actors I think the play can ...

Hi Lea! I'd love to share my "Tartuffe" script with you! Info here... https://www.moliere-in-english.com/index-bestsellers.html Sample review: Mooney's translation may well be the star of the show...a comic theatricality that sweeps through Moliere's panorama of humor--from high to low. Mooney is quite ...

Hi, Christopher! I present a one-man show called "Breakneck Julius Caesar" (I'm working my way through ALL the Shakespeare plays "breakneck style") and it races through the play in just about an hour. It's very audience-participation oriented, as the audience has lines (that they read off of projected ...

Hi Jen! I can't tell if my previous message to you went through. All I need to send you the script is your email address. You can write to me at TimMooneyRep@gmail.com if you (understandably) don't want your email address on an open forum. That goes for anybody else out there who might want to read ...

The Scapin "Sack Scene" is a terrific physical comedy scene. Scapin gets Geronte to hide inside a sack on the pretense that there are thugs coming to kill/maim him... and then proceeds to beat the hell out of the sack. ------------------------------ Tim Mooney www.timmooneyrep.com www.moliere-in-english.com ...

A recent post reminded me that this forum might have an especial interest in events surrounding the upcoming Quadricentennary celebration for Molière. My one-man show, "Molière than Thou" has been a favorite among Theatre and French teachers over the past 20 years, performed over 500 times to perhaps ...

Hi Savannah! This play is entirely flexible. I currently perform it as a one-man show, but there are 25 distinct characters available (list below). But the most important character is the narrator, which can be done by a single person, or traded off through the course of the performance. Thanks! ...

Great choice! (Moliere's 400th birthday is January 2022!) I've put together 17 rhyming adaptations of Molière's plays, most of which I've also edited down into 40-50 minute versions for one-act/competition options. You can find info on those at www.moliere-in-english.com . My personal choice would be ...

Hey, EdTA Friends! It's Molière's 399th birthday! Or, as close as we can get! Molière was christened on January 15, 2022, so we've been calling this "Molière Week" just to be sure. In honor of the event, I'm doing a couple of on-line performances of my one-man play, "Molière than Thou" ...
