I double-cast some silly boys as Chef Louis, so I don't have experience guiding girls through that song vocally, but it's more of a character role than a singing role so I think you could pretty easily cast a strong female actor in the role! We cast a female Scuttle, Flounder, and Sebastian in our production ...

I have not yet repeated a show but I agree with the ten year rule being a good metric. There are so many wonderful plays, and with Almost, Maine already being so frequently produced I would look for a different show to introduce your students to in order to help them expand their knowledge of the theatrical ...

There's a brilliant contemporary play I found on New Play Exchange called Sometimes the Rain, Sometimes the Sea by Julia Izumi. It's a spin on The Little Mermaid and something I was thinking of doing with my students when we are back in-person. I know one of the notes in casting speaks to utilizing Indian ...

Popsicle Scene from Wit (or one of the scenes towards the end of the play between Susie and Jason). Rosalie/Mary, Joe/Karen, or Martha/Karen from The Children's Hour Pretty much any scene from Rabbit Hole. The opening scene would be good for two actresses, you could use one of the scenes between the ...

I don't think there's really anyway to do that without being problematic. You cast the boy you cast, so I would say you need to embrace it. Doing anything to alter his appearance outside of the norm (styling hair to suit a time period, costuming, etc.) could potentially send the wrong message. I will ...

I'm in the midst of reading it... there's definitely a lot of cheeky humor! No chorus of gossips in this one though. ------------------------------ Sadie Andros Theatre Director Lewes DE ------------------------------

Is Disney off the table? If you have enough boys (and girls who can dance), you could maybe have an awesome time with Newsies, or you could go in the direction of The Little Mermaid (which sounds like it could work for your lead boys). You could also definitely get away with The Wizard of Oz! --- ...

I don't believe the play is available for licensing. I do know there is a one-act written in a similar style (The One-Act Play that Goes Poorly) that I've recently seen circulating. The original producer of The Play that Goes Wrong is https://mischieftheatre.co.uk/ You can purchase a copy of the script ...

Goals: Find the funny! When I worked with my students on Brighton Beach Memoirs, one of the assignments I gave them was to find a line someone else had in the show that would make their character laugh. We found some really lovely and nuanced moments using that technique! ------------------------------ ...

Hi! I directed The Great Gatsby with an awesome group of high schoolers two years ago (they picked it as well). I would say the biggest challenge for us was definitely the set because--in a very musical-esque way--the show does jump around a lot in location. We made rectangular columns that rotated ...

Thank you! And wow, never really thought about Wit before for my high school. I was in a production of that show myself--it would definitely be a challenge! ------------------------------ Sadie Andros Theatre Director Lewes DE ------------------------------

Hello! I have an amazingly talented girl (among others) that I'd love to feature in my next fall play (not a musical). Something that is beautifully written with a cast no larger than 20 (smaller shows preferred maybe between 8-15 is ideal for me). I'd love to do something that will really move an audience ...
