Cords are a big deal at our school. NHS, Tri-M, Thespians, military, and blood donation (if they donate a certain number of times at our school blood drives). The principal will discuss the cords at graduation and have students wearing them stand when their cord is mentioned. We are a small school so ...

Such a fun show! Still one of my favorites. My tip is DON'T divide the "Actor" part during the Cinderella scene. I have seen some schools do this in order to have more speaking parts (2 sisters, stepmother, prince, etc). It is WAY funnier if the "Actor" plays all the roles as written by Don Zolidis. ...

I start thinking about shows shortly after we finish this year show. After our fall play I will look at plays for next fall. I usually make a final choice in January or February so that I can get the license and advertise it in the "playbill" for the spring musical. About 3-4 weeks after we close the ...

So The Shop Around the Corner was a movie adaptation of the stage play Parfumerie by Playwright: Miklós László. It was then made into a movie musical In The Good Old Summertime, and then another movie adaptation of You've Got Mail. When I was researching doing this show a year or so ago I was unable ...

You either want the regular version or the HS version (toned down sexual references). Both are found here: https://www.playscripts.com/find-a-play?keyword=clue It will then take you to Broadway Licensing for licensing. As far as I know this is the only version of Clue that is not a musical, but please ...

Sorry in advance for the long post! I am the District Librarian for a small town school in central Illinois (400 students in the high school). I have also been the theater coach for the high school for the past four years and have grown the theater program despite a pandemic. We have gone from one musical ...

We did A Wicked Christmas Carol by Bobby Keniston last fall. It is the Christmas Carol story but with Wizard of Oz characters. The Wicked Witch of the West is the Scrooge character. Really fun play! I know its basically A Christmas Carol but the twist really makes it different. It is licensed through ...

I go based on how many hours that cast member spent in rehearsals and performances. I only require individuals that are in the scenes we are working on that day to be at rehearsal. It is easy to go back and look at how many rehearsals that person would have been at to determine their hours. For every ...

My program sounds very similar in size and gender make up. We just did Annie and it works well because there are few true male roles and several strong female roles. Dancing can be as elaborate as you have talent for. Also, we used several jr high girls as the orphans (especially Molly who is supposed ...

Another thought is Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon. Very flexible and requires no sets. ------------------------------ Amy Williams District Librarian/Theater Teacher Thespian Troupe #8881 Auburn High School Auburn, IL ------------------------------

We did "Leaving Iowa" last May in our school library. I chose it because it is supposed to be done with little to no set. We used a meeting room as our back stage. We left the lights on but we did black out the windows. Because of COVID we were only allowed a small audience so it worked well in the library ...

My students would like to start a show that we will combine with a dinner as a fundraiser. The show will be skits, maybe a one act, monologues, etc. When I was in high school we called it a roadshow but we spent a day going to other schools, nursing homes, etc. to perform. The students don't really want ...

We are in a similar boat as we only have two guys that can sing and one that we pull up from the junior high to play minor male roles. We are doing Annie this spring because it is mostly a female cast. We are using our two singing guys as Warbucks and Rooster and our junior high guy for Drake the ...

Sorry for long post but I need guidance on purchasing sound equipment. We are a fairly new high school theater department and we have been renting our sound equipment for each show and it's not cheap! I have decided to purchase our own equipment to save money down the road. I am in a small town and ...

We are doing Annie in March and I am trying to find a wheelchair for the FDR character and possibly other items like the laundry cart that Annie runs away in. I am in the Springfield, IL area and shipping those big items may be an issue. Does anyone have suggestions of where I might be able to rent these ...

We are a fairly new Thespian Troupe as well. Two years old, but Covid prevented meetings last year. I am interested in what others troupes do. I combine my Thespian meetings with my Theater Club meetings. Anyone can join Theater Club but then they learn about Thespians in the first meeting so they know ...

Yes! Leaving Iowa is a wonderful show! We did it last May with a very small cast (you can double cast many of the characters if needed). Needs very little set pieces or you can make it more elaborate-very flexible show! Because of Covid restrictions we had to have a very small audience of mostly family ...
