I agree with the recent recommendation for Is he Dead? Great piece! You might also consider Neil Simon's The Prisoner of Second Avenue or Rumors. Both have strong male leads, and are beautifully written. I'm not sure if these could be made into a one act. You would need to seek the publisher's permi ...

We have used Schueler Shook, Inc (there is an office in Chicago) to help us with theatre design. Perhaps they could recommend someone locally. I also did a quick search of Columbus to see if other theaters had Black Boxes and I found several. You could contact those theaters to find out who designed ...

I have found with students who are having difficulty memorizing, that associating their lines with the logic of the cue and also with their physicality (blocking and gesture) can make a huge difference in their memorization and confidence.  In one similar situation with an actor who had tons of lines ...

My students seemed very motived by the point system to become a member of the Thespian Society.  We created a more challenging system of points to become a thespian and students involved would usually become a Thespian by the end of Freshman or Sophomore year.   Students that achieved this goal were ...

I taught K-5 theatre for ten years and just loved it. You can have so much fun with the age group you have been assigned. I would suggest (especially if you will be doing this in future years) to pick a specific theme/subject/type of performance for each grade, so that the following year you won't need ...

I used EF tours for a London Trip about 12 years ago and did not have a good experience. So I switched to a wonderful company called Proscenium Tours, based in London. I have now been on 5 trips with Proscenium and have loved them all. We are not booked with other groups, we choose the shows (4 of them), ...

Great play! I produced it this fall. I gave our paintings away to the students afterward but we figured out a way to make them relatively inexpensively. If you want to know the process we used, I would be happy to share it with you. ------------------------------ Diane Landis Theatre Faculty Minneapolis ...

You might consider the Government Inspector by Jeffrey Hatcher or Is He Dead by Mark Twain adapted by David Ives. Both are very funny, and beautifully written. There are some opportunities for gender swapping in both plays if needed. ------------------------------ Diane Landis Theatre Faculty Minneapolis ...

I have been co-teaching a musical theatre class with our choir director every other year for some time. We chose to create a class that follows the DVD series Broadway the American Musical that unfolds in chronological order starting with Vaudeville and progressing by eras. Then students choose from ...

I was considering a change from a 3 ring binder with individual paper thespian point forms in my office to a google doc. My thespian officers all said they don't want to change. Everything they do in school is on google docs, and they appreciate the paper copy and interaction with me as they fill in ...

My props master made a polar bear costume for a project she was doing, I think for the city of White Bear Lake. It is an amazing puppet that needs two people to operate. I don't know if she will rent it, but I can give you her email address if you are interested. I've included a picture here of it at ...

Our school has had an elementary school theatre program for over 25 years. I developed a lot of the curriculum along with my colleague that evolves from K through 5th grade. I'm currently at the High School level, but I'm sure my colleague would be happy to help you out. Cynthia Hechter's school email ...

We made one for our productions that moves really well and is now owned by a company called Prop It Up in Minnesota. The business may be closing it's doors in the spring, so you might be able to get it for a reasonable price. Here is a link. http://www.propitupnow.com/galleries/horrors/index.html ...
