For the first time, I am adding short film to to my drama  curriculum. The films will be entered as part of the Thespian Festival and follows the 5-minute time limit. I have no materials and am hoping someone can pass some on to me. Thus far, I fear that groups are going too big to create a 5-minute film.  Does anyone have any outline, information on camera work, anything as I am starting from scratch.

My kids who compete in this always create the film from scratch. Is there a videography department on your campus where you can borrow or use editing software and/or camera's? This teacher would also be a good resource. The kids who compete in this (for me) are almost always taking film classes as well so have access to both the equipment and software on campus.

I have a basic checklist for the kids:

    - theme

    - script (both well written and still simple enough to accomplish)

    - casting (who is the BEST for the film not who is your friend)

    - scheduling for the actual filming at least a month in advance (inevitably something will happen to the footage at least one year and the shoot will have to be redone)

    - editing should be accomplished within a week of shooting (this allows for time to correct errors)

    - appropriate permissions for any sound used

I can shoot you the links to 1 or 2 of the films we've done if that would help. Just let me know. :^)
