I think, John, it's definitely a case by case. My more academically successful kids I ride harder in terms of their A/B grades, my lower end kids, if this is the only thing that's keeping them in school, I try to offer help and point them toward the help they need to get their grades up, usually tied to a positive consequence. "Larger part next time" or some such incentive, again, individualized to the student.
I recognize that theatre is, for some students, one of the biggest factors for some students as to why they do not drop out of school, and it is important to honor that by being flexible, according to each student's unique situation.
