We don't have a backstage area, so I set up a costume rack in the hall. We need more, and I am wondering if any have ideas on how to make one. We have one out of PVP pipe, but I would like something more sturdy. I don't really like the ones I see to purchase; they don't meet our needs.

Get Z racks on line. They are cheap (about $150), stack inside each other when not in use, and are super strong. You can add shelves, baskets and other attachments too.
They are worth the investment. I have 8 and couldn't work without them. I have even put flats on them for fast traveling shows -- they move so well, and easily steer.
Really good investment -- Some are black and some are orange. Def worth it.

Check out www.garmentracks.com.  I heartily second Ron Wells' recommendation!  These Z-racks are incredibly strong and maneuverable, and they STACK.  Great value for your initial investment.  We couldn't live -- or costume -- without them!

Consider the Wenger Rack 'N Roll Garment Storage Rack, the covers let you expand it to make a small changing room.

I'll jump on the bandwagon for the Z-racks. We have several of them and love them. We also have some that hold mirrors for dance rehearsals and we're able to roll them in and out of storage to use when needed. You can call them with questions, too - to find out what type of rack might best suit your needs. Highly recommend!

I LOVE my Z Racks.  I have three and have ordered three more from Store Supply Warehouse. They have great prices and quick delivery.  Plus, they take purchase orders, which we all know is very important!
